Our Mission
The Corktown Chamber Orchestra provides an opportunity for talented non-professional musicians to foster an appreciation for music and community spirit.
From an eclectic mix of backgrounds our members are serious about the importance of music in our lives, each of us having taken the study of our instruments to a higher level at some point.
We play traditional chamber repertoire for strings but dabble in jazz, pop, folk, and tango. We love trying new things and resonate with opportunities that open new doors.
We think differently than many community arts organizations:
None of our members are compensated financially
We have never made a grant application for public financial support
Each member contributes to the orchestra's artistic, marketing and administrative welfare
While most community orchestras charge an annual memebrship fee, CCO does not
No auditions. Membership is holistically dependent on artistic and non-artistic contribution plus overall "fit"
Music Director Paul McCulloch is a driving force behind the artistic development of the orchestra.
His credits include the Hart House Chamber Orchestra, the Huronia Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Conservatory Chamber Orchestra and the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
In addition to an annual 4-concert season at Little Trinity Church (King & Partliament), we've performed for the Corktown Residents Association community events, The Dominion on Queen pub and on Q107 for a live broadcast of at the Hard Rock Café. We were engaged to perform at the 2008 Toronto Interior Design Show opening gala and a fundraising gala in support of Toronto's magnificent Evergreen project at The Brickworks.
We rehearse Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm
